After receiving $3,000 from Wal-mart for Parks and Recreation in 2008, city staff proposed to council the purchase of some playground equipment to be located on city-owned property behind the city library.

Later a pavilion and a splash pad were added in addition to a fence purchased and installed by the city.

During the park’s development, the city was approached by a friend of Jimmy Lee Campbell to name the park after him. Mr. Campbell lived at this location as a child prior to the city purchasing the property. Mr. Campbell was one of 7 Coweta men who lost their lives during the Vietnam war. A memorial was donated and installed in the park as well as the sign for him.
